Mr. Mbadugha is a certified Arbitrator, and a practicing Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He received his LL.B (Hons) Degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1991 and LL.M (in International Commercial Law) from Cardiff University of Wales, UK. He was admitted to the Bar of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1992. Mr. Mbadugha started his legal career with Bank Chambers under Chief G. N. Uwechue (SAN).
Mr. Mbadugha is the founding partner of McCarthy Mbadugha & Co. He has a high profile of admiralty and cross-border commercial practice. The sphere of his interests includes admiralty and maritime law, cross-border commercial transactions, insurance, arbitration, oil and gas, and debt recovery. He heads the admiralty, cross-border commercial and the insurance practice groups of the firm as well as supervises the general performance of the firm.
Mr. Mbadugha has acted as counsel in several international and domestic Arbitrations. In 2004, he was one of the counsel instructed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to review the draft of the Nigerian Electronic Transaction Act. In 2007 he was appointed a member of the Advisory Board to Fdimoot set up by the Centre for International Legal Studies and endorsed by world bodies such as UNCITRAL, ICSID, LCIA, ITA and BIICL.
Mr. Mbadugha has spoken at several international seminars and conferences in the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, Spain and China and has contributed to several publications. He is a fellow of the Centre for International Legal Studies, Austria. He is also a member of the following International and Regional Organizations:
